Die zuletzt genannte ist die Wirklichkeit, die in Texten als wirklich erscheint, obwohl sie Teil einer nichtwirklichen Welt ist. Sie hat aber prinzipiell keine feste Beziehung zur sozial konstruierten Wirklichkeit. Sowohl in der Wissenssoziologie als auch in der Literatur werden Wirklichkeiten konstruiert. Die Frage, wie diese Konstruktion jeweils erfolgt, ist Mittelpunkt der Literaturwissenschaft und der Wissenssoziologie.
Die Aussage, dass die fiktionale Wirklichkeit prinzipiell keine feste Beziehung zur sozial konstruierten faktischen Wirklichkeit hat, stelle ich hier in Frage. Ich behaupte, dass zumindest in der Science-Fiction-Literatur im engeren Sinne zwischen diesen beiden Wirklichkeiten sehr wohl ein Bezug besteht. Beide Wirklichkeiten werden nach denselben Prinzipien konstruiert, auch wenn von anderen Voraussetzungen ausgegangen wird. Die Konstruktion von Wirklichkeit und der Umgang mit Wissen folgen in der fiktiven Wirklichkeit der Science-Fiction-Romane und -Erzählungen den gleichen Regeln und werden von den gleichen Einflussfaktoren bestimmt wie in unserer faktischen Welt.
Speziell soll die „Foundation-Trilogie“ in dieser Arbeit untersucht werden. Eine Schlüsselrolle hat in ihr der Seldon-Plan inne, der direkt wissenssoziologische Ideen und Mechanismen beinhaltet. An ihm möchte ich nachweisen, dass wissenssoziologische Aspekte in Asimovs Werken und speziell im vom Seldon-Plan geprägten Foundation-Universum1 eine tragende Rolle spielen. Darüber hinaus möchte ich zeigen, dass die Wissenssoziologie auch über ihren Fachbereich hinaus von Belang ist und deren theoretische Grundlagen für die gesamte Science-Fiction-Literatur eine besondere Bedeutung haben. Es ist nicht möglich, innerhalb dieser Arbeit alle wissenssoziologischen Aspekte, die sich in Asimovs Werk finden lassen, zu untersuchen. Daher beschränke ich mich auf die Romane der Foundation-Trilogie und konzentriere mich dabei auf herausragende Abschnitte.
