Thank You Hillary Clinton

Hillary ClintonIt seemed only right to take a moment to honor and acknowledge the incredible race run by Hillary Clinton. While everyone one else is fixated on what the Clinton campaign did wrong, it’s important to take a look at all they did right.

First and foremost, like Barack Obama, Hillary also brought in a huge number of newly registered voters increasing Democratic voter rolls and expanding the size of the party. Her efforts in combination with Obama’s has created a voter block that could be unstoppable, not only in the 2008 Presidential election but also in local, state and congressional races for years to come.

Clinton put health care front and center. While all the Presidential candidates were talking about health care, Hillary Clinton was the only candidate who elevated the conversation to make it clear that universal health was much more than a great idea. It was her efforts that convinced hold outs on the right and left that universal Health Care is a necessity that should be available to every American regardless of economic situation or current medical condition.

What Clinton did for the status of women. She didn’t beak the glass ceiling, but as she said herself, it now has 18 million cracks in it, ensuring its eminent collapse. We now live in a time where a woman running for the highest office in the land is unremarkable, made so by the remarkable efforts of Hillary and her supporters.

Taming the right. It may seem like a small point, but I can’t help but think back to the interview Hillary gave with Fox News propagandist number one, Bill O’Reilly. When pitted face to face with the rights primer orator, Hillary deflated and negated all the arguments of the right, leaving O’Reilly with nothing but hollow talking point to cling to. Remember how O’Reilly backed down when it came to paying for universal health care.

She put the country first. A lot of corporate news anchors wanted to give Hillary the business for not conceding at the exact moment Barack Obama passed the delegate threshold, but that opinion gave her no credit for the accomplishments she had made nor did it acknowledge the incredible work done by her supporters to win the nomination. And when it came time to endorse Obama, she did so with clarity and respect and the statesmanship we would expect from someone seeking to run the country. She cold have contested the nomination, it was very close, but for the sake of the country, she stepped aside proving that her number one concern was the country not her campaign.

When all is said and done we have Hillary Clinton to thank for tearing down barriers that prevent women from reaching their potential, we have Hillary Clinton to thank for winning the argument on universal health care, and we have Hillary Clinton to thank for moving the country forward again. Thank you Hillary, we are so proud of you.
