The State of the News: Worse than Ever By: Carol Dunn |
| |
We’ve talked about the fact that the news no longer reports any news, but lately it seems that things have got a lot worse. Forget the fact that we are not permitted to see American casualties in Iraq, or that there is no reporting on the actions of Congressmen like Dennis Kucinich or Robert Wexler, two of the only public officials that are trying to do anything for the American people. No lately things have got a lot worse.
Now there are TV and Radio personalities who are going way too far, calling for murder, hate crimes, and just plain lying about what is going on. Think their not, take a look at what some popular personalities have been saying.
Radio personality Michael Savage recently said, “I'd hang every lawyer who went down to Guantánamo.” He has also said that the homeless should be put into work camps.
Radio personality Neal Boortz has repeatedly referred to the victims of hurricane Katrina as “Parasites.”
Radio personality Michael Reagan said, “We ought to find the people who are doing this, take them out and shoot them,” in reference to American’s who have been sending conspiracy information about 9/11 to the troops in Iraq.
Despite the fact it has been proven false, Fox News anchor Shawn Hannity has reported that China is drilling for oil off the cost of Florida. Shawn said, “We've got China, you know, joining with Cuba, they're drilling 60 miles off our shores of Florida.”
And that just scratches the surface of hate and lies, there’s also the crime of omission. Here’s a sample of what’s not getting reported.
John McCain has exceeded public financing spending limits and is being investigated right now to see if he has broken the law.
Articles of Impeachment have been issued and sent to committee for both Bush and Cheney.
Harriet Meyers and Josh Bolton are in contempt for refusing to appear before Congress even though they have been subpoenaed to do so. General Attorney McCaskey is refusing to do his job by not enforcing those subpoenas.
The number of Iraqi casualties since the beginning of the war now estimated to be over 1,000,000.
17 percent of American’s believe America is headed in the right direction.
John McCain’s economic advisor, Phil Graham is the same individual who spearheaded the Enron loophole, made the current oil crisis possible and orchestrated the changes to the law that caused the current housing crisis.
Murder, hate and lies, apparently the three new rules of the media. God help us.
