“Unity” By: Tan Williams |

No I’m not talking about Hillary and Obama, I’m talking about Democrats and a majority of Republicans. A June 19-23, 2008 Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg Poll showed that 78 percent of registered voters believe the country is “seriously off on the wrong track.”
So what is it that has brought us together?
First, it’s the economy stupid. Here’s a shock, Republican voters are getting just as crushed by neo-con economic policy as Democrats. We are all well aware that it is John McCain’s economic advisor Phil Gramm that engineered the Enron loophole which created California’s energy crisis, and enabled speculators to drive up the cost of oil. It was also Gramm who deregulated the mortgage industry making the housing crisis possible. Can you imagine what would happen to the economy under President McCain with Secretary of the Treasury Gramm?
Second, the Iraq war. Republicans and Democrats are both very aware that the War in Iraq is a business deal, not a war to spread Democracy. So after 4000 dead and 30,000 wounded Americans and over 1,000,000 dead Iraqi civilians, the citizens of the United States, from both sides of the aisle are ready to kill Bush’s Iraq business deal.
Third, the Afghanistan war. We all agree, when Bush decided to occupy Iraq, he decided to abandon the search for Osama bin Laden. You’ll remember Bush saying that he just doesn’t, “spend much time thinking about him.”
Forth, Bush’s suspension of the Constitution. Warrantless wiretaps, etc…
Fifth, Bush’s torture and imprisonment of children. Gitmo.
Sixth, the lobbyist takeover of Washington. Look for the Don Young Intern Initiation Memo, and you’ll get a glimpse of how Washington really works. Disgusting!
I guess I could keep going on but I think the point has been made. There is unity. Democrats and Republicans want the country back, we want the Government back and most importantly we want the future back.
So this fall when you vote, please, please educate yourself on who you are voting for, where they stand on the issues and who they associate with. Whether you vote Democratic or Republican, vote for those individuals who want to restore the country, not those who are looking to profit from it. Let’s show that regardless of our minor ideological differences, there is a unified American people, who can’t be divided or deceived by liars and criminals.
