 It was put to me as a challenge; how inexpensively can a wedding be done and still be beautiful, memorable event? the answer; for almost nothing. Take a look at some these money saving substitutes, maybe there’s something you might want to consider for your own wedding to save a few bucks.
Stuff you can substitute:
Invitations: Make your own, or get blank cards from the dollar store.
Flowers: Don’t buy; pick wild flowers the night before or the day of your wedding.
The Wedding Gown: Don’t buy; make your own or just wear the nicest dress you own.
The Tuxedo: Forget the tux, wear a nice suit you own or borrow one from a friend.
The Wedding Ceremony: Skip the church and have the ceremony in public park or beach or any public place that is special to you.
The Reception site: Have the reception at your home or the home of a friend who has a yard large enough to accommodate the guests.
Stuff you can dump:
Forget Wedding Favors: Nobody cares about the favors; you can easily loose these without anyone noticing.
DJ or Band: As much fun as a live band or a DJ is, you can easily do without by hooking up a CD player.
Photographer: Use disposable cameras passed out to guests, and pick the most competent photographers from among your guests to take the group shots and photos of the bride and groom.
Limousine: Forget the limo; just use your own car or the nicest car you can borrow for the day.
Stuff you have to pay for:
Food and Drink: Really know way around these two. You can reduce your cost by making the food yourself and serving soda, but if you’re going to spend money anywhere this would be the place.
Preacher or Justice of the Peace: Not much you can do here, count on paying around $100.00.
Now it’s not likely you would use all these suggestions for your wedding but that’s not the point. The point is to show how, with a little thought and effort, you can really reduce the cost of your wedding.
