Today in 1977, Ronnie Milsap took home three trophies at the 11th annual Country Music Association Awards -- Entertainer, Male Vocalist, and Album of the Year. Today in 1983, Alabama won Entertainer, Album, and Vocal Group of the Year honors at the 17th annual Country Music Association Awards. It was the group's second of three consecutive Entertainer titles, and their third consecutive Vocal Group award. Their Album award for "The Closer You Get" marked the first time that category had been won by a group. Today in 1986, Randy Travis received his first Gold album, for his debut release "Storms of Life." Today in 1988, K.T. Oslin became the first woman to win the Country Music Association Song of the Year trophy, for "'80's Ladies." Today in 1993, Willie Nelson and the IRS settled their long-standing tax dispute. Today in 1995, Lonestar's self-titled debut album was released. Today in 2000, Mark Wills made his debut on ABC-TV's "Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher." Today in 2007, Vince Gill, John Rich, Trisha Yearwood, Taylor Swift, a solo Heidi Newfield, Raul Malo, Patty Griffin, and Jewel were among the performers at the "All for the Hall" benefit for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in New York City. It was the second performance that day for Malo, who before the country event took part in a concert salute to Elton John at Carnegie Hall. Today in 2007, Tanya Tucker, T.G. Sheppard, Asleep at the Wheel's Ray Benson, and T. Graham Brown were among the performers at Steve Cropper's annual fundraiser for the T.J. Martell Foundation.
