Bryan Ferry Bashes Songwriting In Lengthy BMI Icon Award Acceptance
Bryan Ferry is lamenting the task of songwriting. The veteran performer shared his feelings about penning tunes at Tuesday's BMI London Awards, where he was honored as the 2008 BMI Icon recipient. "The London Paper's" "London Blog" says that in his acceptance he called songwriting a "very lonely" endeavor. The blog also describes the Roxy Music frontman's speech "embarrassingly long," noting it lasted 20 minutes. Ferry even seemed to have an inkling that he might be rambling a bit. He asked the crowd's forgiveness, quote, "if I'm going on for too long," and admitted that he wasn't exactly sober, adding, quote, "this is what happens when I've had a bit to drink." The BMI London Awards recognize the most performed rock and pop songs from European and Jamaican songwriters and publishers that have made their way to American radio and TV. The event also pays tribute to noteworthy songwriters and artists with the Icon Award.
