Kenny Chesney Opens Up About CD's Influence, Bonus Tracks
Kenny Chesney's giving fans the deluxe edition of his new album first. This version of "Lucky Old Sun" contains the eleven-track CD along with a bonus disc featuring four live cuts and downloadable video material. One of the bonus tunes is "Got A Little Crazy," which Chesney originally released on last year's effort, "Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates." The singer notes it's a song he thought was overlooked on the last disc, and deserved additional attention.
While "Got A Little Crazy" is more of a party song, Chesney admits that "Lucky Old Sun" doesn't have that same tone. He's described the album as very personal and introspective, and tells "Newsweek" that he wrote much of the material right after his marriage to actress Renee Zellweger ended. Chesney says that at the time he was, quote, "probably as emotionally and mentally exhausted as I'd ever been," and he dealt with his feelings by hiding away in the Virgin Islands and writing songs -- which he notes was "good therapy." He also acknowledges that it's taken him "years" to heal from that breakup, and while he the entire album isn't about Renee, she inspired a number of songs on "Lucky Old Sun." Noting that he has no idea how his ex will react to the material, Chesney calls the the disc "the truth," "my life," and "a pretty honest record." He adds that he's "in a good place right now," and without offering any details reveals that he is currently dating someone new. |
