Writers Of Currington, Atkins Hits Among ASCAP Country Award Winners
Billy Currington's "Good Directions" has new recognition as one of the top five most-performed country songs of the year. The chart topping hit also gave songwriter Rachel Thibodeau the nod for ASCAP Country Song of the Year at the 46th annual ASCAP Country Music Awards. The other top tracks of 2008 include Dierks Bentley's "Free & Easy (Down the Road I Go)," Montgomery Gentry's "Lucky Man," Kenny Chesney's "Don't Blink," and Rodney Atkins' "These Are My People." The Atkins hit was penned by Dave Berg, who was named the ASCAP Songwriter of the Year. In addition, Alan Jackson captured this year's ASCAP Songwriter/Artist of the Year award, and Reba McEntire received the Golden Note Award for her outstanding career achievements. The 46th Annual ASCAP Country Music Awards were presented in a ceremony at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville Monday night.
The evening's top honors were awarded to the following:
ASCAP Songwriter of the Year: Dave Berg for Blake Shelton's "Don't Make Me," Bucky Covington's "It's Good To Be Us," Emerson Drive's "Moments," Rodney Atkins' "These Are My People," and Chris Cagle's "What Kinda Gone."
ASCAP Songwriter/Artist of the Year: Alan Jackson for "A Woman's Love" and "Small Town Southern Man."
