Sumner Settles For Backing Bad Lieutenant
Bernard Sumner is best known for his work as frontman for New Order, but he'll step back from the mic and let newcomer Jake Evans take the lead for his new group Bad Lieutenant. The band also features New Order guitarist Phil Cunningham, and contributions from Blur's Alex James and New Order's Stephen Morris. Sumner tells NME.com, quote, "We've worked hard on it and I'm proud of it. It's also important because it gives people the chance to hear a gifted new singer and a guitar player who I think is really talented." The group has titled its debut disc, "Never Cry Another Tear," and will release the effort October 5th. The lead single, "Sink Or Swim," is expected to surface in mid-September. With James busy with Blur, bassist Tom Chapman is expected to join Evans, Sumner, Cunningham, and Morris when they tour in support of the disc.
