Phil Vassar Gets Philosophical Amid Changes
Phil Vassar says he's recognizing more and more just how precious life really is. He tells CMT.com, quote, "Take what's going on in Haiti. Life's so fragile. It can just be blown out like a candle in an instant." The singer-songwriter notes he's realizing, quote, "You've got a choice: You can be happy or sad. You really can. I choose to be happy whenever I can be....I take life seriously, but I don't take it too seriously." He brings that attitude to his latest CD, "Traveling Circus." The album offers a mix of lighthearted, fun songs along with more thought-provoking, contemplative tracks. It's the first album for which Vassar has taken complete control. He wrote or co-wrote every song, recorded the material with his touring band instead of studio musicians, and served as his own producer.
Vassar is working to spread the word about "Traveling Circus." The CD arrived in December, as his record label -- Universal South -- was negotiating a merge with Toby Keith's Show Dog Records. He describes the situation at the time as "mayhem," and to date the album's sales have sagged. But Vassar says he's happy he's now on Keith's label, and part of a roster that also includes Trace Adkins. |
