Shania Tops Olympics Opening Ceremony Performer Preference Poll
Shania Twain is getting the nod to represent her country at the Winter Olympics. The singer just edges out fellow Canadian singer Celine Dion in an ongoing People.com poll asking, quote, "If you had to choose just one, which Canadian pop star do you want to see perform at the Olympic opening ceremonies?" Shania tops the list with 35-percent of the vote, but Dion takes a very close second place at 34-percent. Following in third place is Nelly Furtado, earning a nod from 12-percent, while eleven-percent would like Avril Lavigne to get the call. Alanis Morissette rounds out the list as the choice of nine-percent of those taking the poll. The 2010 Winter Olympics will begin with the Opening Ceremony, airing February 12th on NBC.
Twain has already taken part in the festivities surrounding the upcoming Winter Olympic Games. The country star was among the torch bearers as the Olympic flame made its way across Canada to Vancouver, British Columbia. The singer braved frigid temperatures -- including wind chills reaching 30-below-zero -- to carry the torch on the relay through her hometown of Timmins, Ontario. In a New Year's Day event she brought the flame to Hollinger Park and lit the town's ceremonial Olympic cauldron. |
